St. Bridget of Sweden Brigittine Rosary features six decades instead of the usual five. The 5mm blue crystal-cut beads of this rosary are complemented by a pair of 6mm gold-and-silver-tone rosebud beads between each decade. The center displays a colorful image of St. Bridget of Sweden on one side and a relief of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the other. The 2 1/4-inch Papal crucifix that completes this rosary is truly stunning—a silver-tone cross with a gold-tone corpus. Made in Italy
The Brigittine Rosary (also called the Brigittine or Carmelite Rosary) is a variation of the traditional Dominican Rosary, associated with St. Bridget (Birgitta) of Sweden in the 14th century and traditionally used in the Discalced Carmelite Order. It has six decades (instead of five), totaling 63 Hail Marys (to honor the traditional belief that Mary lived 63 years on earth) and 7 Our Fathers (to honor the Seven Joys and Seven Sorrows of Mary).
It is structured like the standard Rosary but with key differences:
- Six sets of 10 Hail Mary beads + a separator Our Father bead for each decade.
- An introductory Our Father + three Hail Marys.
- At the end of each decade, pray the Apostles' Creed (instead of the Glory Be).
